Before the Next Enrollment Cycle, Ask These Five Questions.
A practical reflection for enrollment leaders preparing for the next cycle. Use these questions to clarify what is working, where ownership is unclear, and what deserves attention next.
1. Do we know our actual conversion rates?
Reflection / action step: Define the stages of your enrollment journey, agree on what counts at each stage, and review the available data by stage. Note the questions the current data cannot answer yet.
2. Are families receiving timely, meaningful communication?
Reflection / action step: Map the key moments when families need clarity and care. Review the messages, timing, ownership, and next steps at each moment, then identify one gap to improve.
3. Is ownership clearly defined?
Reflection / action step: For each important enrollment task, name the person or role responsible, the handoff point, and the expected follow-through. Surface any work that depends on assumed ownership.
4. Are we using data to make decisions?
Reflection / action step: Bring the team together around a small set of useful measures. For each measure, record the decision it should inform and the next review date.
5. Is our technology supporting the family journey?
Reflection / action step: Walk through the family experience from inquiry to enrollment. Record where tools reduce friction, where staff must re-enter information, and where human support is still essential.
